WooCommerce Abandoned Cart Recovery on WhatsApp | ZazzyAgent

Updated
View as Markdown

Customers often add products to their cart without completing checkout.

A WhatsApp reminder can give them an easy way to return to the cart.

A typical abandoned-cart workflow looks like:

Cart abandoned

WooCommerce sends event

ZazzyAgent receives webhook

Customer information is mapped

WhatsApp reminder

Customer returns to checkout

What you need

Prepare:

  • WooCommerce store

  • WordPress access

  • Connected WhatsApp account

  • Approved WhatsApp template

  • Abandoned-cart webhook integration

  • ZazzyAgent webhook workflow

Step 1: Create the WhatsApp template

Create a suitable WhatsApp marketing template.

Example:

Hi {{1}}, you still have items waiting in your cart. Complete your order here: {{2}}

Use an appropriate CTA where supported.

The template should be approved before using it in the applicable WhatsApp workflow.

Step 2: Prepare your WooCommerce store

Use the supported abandoned-cart webhook integration for your WooCommerce setup.

Depending on your current setup, this may involve installing and configuring the relevant integration/plugin in WordPress.

Step 3: Create the webhook workflow

Open:

WhatsApp → Webhook Workflow

Create a new workflow.

Give it a useful name:

WooCommerce Abandoned Cart

Select the appropriate WhatsApp account.

Select the approved template.

Create the workflow.

Step 4: Copy the webhook URL

Copy the ZazzyAgent webhook callback URL.

You'll use this inside the WooCommerce/WordPress configuration.

Step 5: Add the webhook URL to WordPress

Open the relevant abandoned-cart webhook settings in WordPress.

Paste the ZazzyAgent webhook URL.

Save the configuration.

Step 6: Send a sample webhook

Use the integration's test/sample webhook feature where available.

This lets you confirm that ZazzyAgent receives the cart data.

Step 7: Capture the webhook response

Open your ZazzyAgent workflow.

Capture the sample response.

Look at the available fields.

You may receive information such as:

  • Customer name

  • Phone number

  • Cart data

  • Product information

  • Cart or checkout URL

The exact field paths depend on your integration.

Step 8: Map the important fields

Map:

Customer Name

→ customer's first name

Phone Number

→ customer's billing phone

Cart URL

→ customer cart/checkout link

Use the actual captured field names rather than assuming the structure.

Step 9: Configure the delay

You don't necessarily want the reminder to go out at the exact instant the cart becomes abandoned.

Choose a sensible delay.

For example:

Cart abandoned

Wait

Send reminder

Your actual delay should be based on your customer journey and business model.

Step 10: Test the workflow

Create a test cart.

Leave the checkout incomplete.

Confirm:

  1. WooCommerce detects the abandoned cart.

  2. Webhook is sent.

  3. ZazzyAgent receives it.

  4. Fields are mapped.

  5. Template variables are populated.

  6. WhatsApp message is sent.

Why isn't the abandoned-cart reminder working?

Webhook isn't triggered

Check the WooCommerce integration/plugin and confirm it is active.

ZazzyAgent receives nothing

Check the webhook URL.

Customer name is blank

Check the name field mapping.

Phone number is wrong

Check the actual phone value sent by WooCommerce.

You may need to format the number correctly.

Template isn't sending

Check:

  • Template approval

  • Template availability

  • Variables

  • WhatsApp eligibility

  • Message status

Prevent reminders after purchase

This is one of the most important parts of cart recovery.

Imagine:

10:00 AM

Customer abandons cart.

10:30 AM

Reminder scheduled.

10:25 AM

Customer completes purchase.

You don't want the 10:30 AM reminder to arrive after checkout.

Your workflow should use whatever supported conditions or follow-up logic are available to prevent reminders after a completed purchase.

Multiple abandoned-cart reminders

A more advanced setup might use:

Reminder 1

Later

Reminder 2

Later

Final reminder

Don't send too many reminders.

Each message should provide a reason for the customer to return.

Example reminder sequence

Reminder 1

Hi Rahul, you left some items in your cart. Would you like to complete your order?

Reminder 2

Your selected items are still waiting for you.

Final reminder

Need help completing your order? Reply here and we'll help.

Promotional wording and timing should follow the applicable WhatsApp rules.

Improve the experience

Make the reminder useful.

A good message should:

  • Identify the customer

  • Remind them what they were doing

  • Provide a clear next step

  • Make returning to checkout easy

  • Give them a way to ask for help

The underlying abandoned-cart workflow supports webhook-based cart detection, customer-data mapping and configurable delays.
