Migrating a WhatsApp Number From Another Provider to ZazzyAgent

Updated
View as Markdown

Moving an existing WhatsApp API number from one provider to another is different from connecting a brand-new number.

The number already has a WhatsApp Business Platform history, so you need to pay attention to its existing provider connection and WABA configuration.

This guide explains what to check before connecting the number to ZazzyAgent.

First: identify how your number was connected

Ask:

Was this number previously connected to another WhatsApp API provider?

If yes, you're dealing with a migration.

If the number is brand new and has never been connected to another provider, you generally don't need migration-specific settings.

Check the WABA

Before moving the number, establish which WhatsApp Business Account currently manages it.

You should know:

  • The Meta Business Portfolio

  • WABA

  • Phone number

  • Existing provider connection

This avoids trying to connect a number from the wrong business account.

Remove the old provider connection where required

A number can remain associated with its previous business service provider.

If the previous provider is still connected, the new connection may fail.

A provider migration may therefore require removing the old provider relationship through the appropriate Meta/WhatsApp settings.

Don't simply delete the WhatsApp number or WABA without understanding the migration consequences.

Connect the number to ZazzyAgent

After the previous connection is handled, use the normal ZazzyAgent WhatsApp connection process.

Your Meta account needs the appropriate access to the business and WhatsApp assets.

What about the existing WABA?

A migration doesn't necessarily mean you need to create a completely new WABA.

The correct approach depends on how your existing WhatsApp number and WABA are configured.

Don't create duplicate WABAs just because the connection initially fails.

First establish where the number actually lives.

Indian numbers and Local Storage

There is a special setting in ZazzyAgent:

Local Storage (India Only)

Use this only for:

+91 Indian numbers that were migrated from another WhatsApp provider.

Indian migrated number

Local Storage: ON

New Indian number

Local Storage: OFF

Non-Indian number

Local Storage: OFF

The setting is tied to the migration scenario, not simply to the country where your business operates.

Register Phone after migration

Depending on your migration and connection state, you may need to use Register Phone.

The registration form requires a six-digit WhatsApp two-step verification PIN.

If the number was automatically registered and its PIN was never changed, the default used by the setup is:

123456

If the PIN has been changed, use the current PIN.

See What Is "Register Phone" in ZazzyAgent? for a detailed explanation.

What if the number won't connect?

Start with the previous provider.

Ask:

Is the number still attached to the old provider?

Then check the WABA.

Then check Meta permissions.

Then check registration.

Don't jump directly to creating a new phone number.

What happens to existing customer conversations?

Moving providers doesn't mean you should assume that every historical conversation will automatically become available in the new platform.

The availability of historical data depends on what is stored by the previous provider and what is transferred or exposed through the WhatsApp/Meta setup.

Before migration, determine which information your business needs to retain.

What happens to templates?

Your templates belong to the WhatsApp Business Account/Meta environment rather than simply being a local ZazzyAgent setting.

After migration, confirm that the expected approved templates are available and synchronized.

See WhatsApp Template Not Showing in ZazzyAgent?.

What happens to the display name?

The display name is associated with the WhatsApp business configuration.

After migration, check that:

  • The correct display name is approved.

  • Correct WABA is connected.

  • ZazzyAgent has synchronized the latest information.

See WhatsApp Display Name Not Showing?.

What if the old provider says the number is disconnected?

A provider saying it is disconnected doesn't necessarily mean every Meta-side relationship has already disappeared.

Check the actual Meta/WhatsApp business configuration.

Migration checklist

Before connecting:

  • [ ] Identify current WABA

  • [ ] Identify current provider

  • [ ] Confirm business ownership/access

  • [ ] Check provider connection

  • [ ] Prepare Meta permissions

  • [ ] Confirm phone number

  • [ ] Confirm current display name

  • [ ] Confirm template status

For a +91 migrated number:

  • [ ] Determine whether Local Storage is required

After connecting:

  • [ ] Register phone if required

  • [ ] Confirm display name

  • [ ] Synchronize information

  • [ ] Confirm templates

  • [ ] Test incoming messages

  • [ ] Test outgoing messages

  • [ ] Test automation

The most common migration mistake

The mistake is treating a migrated number like a brand-new number.

A number that has already been connected to another provider can retain provider relationships and configuration that need to be handled before the new setup works correctly.

Start by understanding the number's existing Meta/WhatsApp configuration.

Then complete the ZazzyAgent connection.
