Instagram Bot Connected but Not Replying? Check This Setting
Is your Instagram account connected to ZazzyAgent, but your bot isn't responding when someone sends a message?
Before rebuilding your automation or reconnecting everything, check one Instagram setting:
Allow access to messages
This setting is found under Instagram's Connected tools area.
If message access is disabled, connected applications may not receive the Instagram message events required for automation.
How to enable Instagram message access
Open the Instagram mobile app while logged into the Instagram account connected to ZazzyAgent.
Then follow these steps:
Step 1
Open your Instagram profile.
Step 2
Tap the ☰ Menu button in the top-right corner.
Step 3
Tap:
Settings and privacy
Step 4
Open:
Messages and story replies
Step 5
Tap:
Message controls
Step 6
Scroll down to:
Connected tools
Step 7
Turn on:
Allow access to messages
The setting should be enabled.
Why does this setting matter?
Your Instagram connection can appear correctly configured while message access is disabled.
That can create a confusing situation:
Instagram is connected
but:
ZazzyAgent receives no incoming messages
When no message event reaches the automation system, the bot has nothing to trigger the reply.
What to check after enabling it
Send a fresh Instagram message from another account.
For example:
Hi
Then check:
Does the conversation appear in ZazzyAgent?
Does the Instagram message reach the inbox?
Does the automation trigger?
Does the bot reply?
If the bot still doesn't reply
Check these in order.
1. Confirm the Instagram account type
Make sure the account meets the requirements for the Instagram messaging functionality you're using.
2. Confirm Instagram is linked to Facebook
Your Instagram account should be connected to the correct Facebook Page.
Having both an Instagram account and Facebook Page isn't enough if they aren't linked correctly.
3. Check the Facebook Page
Make sure the Instagram account is linked to the same Page you're using during Meta authorization.
4. Check Meta permissions
The Facebook account used during connection needs the required access to the relevant Page, business and Instagram assets.
5. Check Connected Tools again
Return to:
Instagram → Settings and privacy → Messages and story replies → Message controls → Connected tools
Confirm:
Allow access to messages = ON
6. Reconnect Instagram
If permissions were previously denied or changed, reconnecting the Instagram account may be necessary.
Why doesn't reconnecting always fix it?
Reconnecting the account can refresh permissions, but it doesn't necessarily fix an Instagram setting that is disabled inside the mobile app.
That's why Connected Tools should be checked separately.
A useful diagnostic test
Use another Instagram account to send:
Test
Then check the entire path:
Instagram
↓
Message sent
↓
Instagram message access
↓
ZazzyAgent receives message
↓
Automation trigger
↓
Bot reply
This helps you determine exactly where the problem occurs.
If the message doesn't appear in ZazzyAgent
Focus on:
Instagram permissions
Facebook Page connection
Account type
Connected Tools
Message access
If the message appears but the bot doesn't reply
The Instagram connection may be working.
Now investigate the automation itself:
Is the automation active?
Is the trigger configured correctly?
Is the correct Instagram account selected?
Does the message match the trigger?
Is another automation handling the message?
If the bot replies to some messages but not others
The connection may be fine.
Check your automation rules and triggers instead.
A connection problem usually affects incoming message delivery more broadly.
The most important setting to remember
If your Instagram bot is connected but appears completely silent, check:
Connected tools → Allow access to messages
before spending time rebuilding the bot.
This small Instagram setting can be the difference between an automation receiving messages normally and receiving nothing.
