How to Connect Instagram and Facebook to ZazzyAgent

Updated
View as Markdown

ZazzyAgent can connect with your Facebook and Instagram accounts so you can manage supported messaging and automation from the platform.

The part that causes the most confusion is that Instagram and Facebook are not completely independent during Meta's connection process.

For Instagram automation, your Instagram Professional account needs the appropriate connection to a Facebook Page, and the Meta account you use to connect everything needs the required permissions.

This guide walks you through the setup.

What do I need before connecting Instagram?

Prepare:

  • A Facebook account with access to your business assets

  • A Facebook Page

  • An Instagram Professional account

  • The Instagram account linked to the correct Facebook Page

  • Appropriate Meta permissions

The current underlying Instagram connection documentation specifically describes connecting the Instagram account through Facebook and granting access to Pages, businesses and Instagram accounts.

Why does Instagram need a Facebook Page?

Meta manages Instagram business messaging through its wider Meta business ecosystem.

For the supported Instagram connection workflow, your Instagram account should be connected to the Facebook Page you want to use.

This is one of the first things to check when Instagram does not appear during setup.

How to check whether Instagram is connected to Facebook

Open the Meta/Facebook settings for the relevant Page and check the connected Instagram account.

Make sure:

  • You selected the correct Facebook Page.

  • The Instagram account is connected to that Page.

  • You are using the same Meta business context that owns or manages those assets.

A common mistake is having an Instagram account and Facebook Page but never actually linking them.

How to connect Facebook to ZazzyAgent

Step 1: Open ZazzyAgent

Log in to your ZazzyAgent dashboard.

Open the Facebook connection section.

Step 2: Start Facebook connection

Choose the option to connect Facebook.

Step 3: Log in with Facebook

Use the Facebook account that has access to your business Page and Instagram account.

Step 4: Grant permissions

Meta may ask which Pages, businesses and Instagram accounts ZazzyAgent can access.

Choose the relevant assets.

The current underlying connection workflow asks users to allow access to current/future Pages, businesses and Instagram accounts before completing the connection.

Step 5: Finish

Complete the Meta authorization process and return to ZazzyAgent.

Your connected Facebook Page and related Instagram assets should then appear in the relevant area.

How to connect Instagram

Once the Facebook connection is available:

  1. Open the Instagram connection area in ZazzyAgent.

  2. Select the relevant Instagram account/Page.

  3. Enable the account if required.

  4. Confirm the required permissions.

  5. Test Instagram messaging.

The underlying ZazzyAgent Instagram workflow uses Connect Account → Connect Instagram → Login with Facebook, followed by Meta permission approval and enabling the connected Instagram account.

My Instagram account isn't showing

This is one of the most common Instagram setup problems.

Check these in order.

1. Is the account a Professional account?

Confirm that the Instagram account is eligible for the supported Instagram messaging features.

2. Is Instagram linked to a Facebook Page?

Having both accounts is not enough.

They need to be connected correctly inside Meta.

3. Is it the correct Facebook Page?

Businesses sometimes have several Pages.

Make sure the Instagram account is connected to the Page you're selecting.

4. Do you have the right permissions?

The Facebook account you're using must have enough access to the Page and associated business assets.

5. Did you approve all requested permissions?

If some Meta permissions were denied, the account or Page may not appear correctly.

The current troubleshooting guidance identifies Business/Creator account requirements, Facebook Page linking, message-access permissions and reauthorization as common Instagram connection checks.

Instagram connected but the bot isn't replying

There is one Instagram setting you should check before doing anything complicated.

Check Instagram Connected Tools

Instagram has a setting that controls access to connected tools.

Open the Instagram mobile app while logged into the Instagram account.

Then:

  1. Open your Instagram profile.

  2. Tap the ☰ Menu icon.

  3. Open Settings and privacy.

  4. Open Messages and story replies.

  5. Open Message controls.

  6. Scroll to Connected tools.

  7. Turn on Allow access to messages.

If this setting is disabled, connected third-party tools may not receive the Instagram message events they need for automation.

The underlying troubleshooting documentation specifically calls out Allow Access to Messages under Instagram connected tools as a key check when no incoming messages are captured.

Instagram troubleshooting checklist

If the bot still isn't responding, check:

  • [ ] Instagram is a Professional account

  • [ ] Instagram is linked to a Facebook Page

  • [ ] The correct Facebook Page is connected

  • [ ] The correct Meta business is being used

  • [ ] Required Meta permissions were approved

  • [ ] Instagram Connected Tools is enabled

  • [ ] Allow access to messages is enabled

  • [ ] The Instagram account is enabled in ZazzyAgent

  • [ ] You tested with a new message from another account

How to test the connection

Use another Instagram account and send a simple message:

Hi

Check whether:

  1. The message reaches ZazzyAgent.

  2. The conversation appears in the inbox.

  3. Your Instagram automation is triggered.

  4. The expected reply is sent.

Testing from a second account makes it much easier to determine whether the issue is with the Instagram connection or the automation itself.

Facebook connection problems

If your Facebook Page isn't appearing:

  • Check that you're logged into the correct Facebook account.

  • Confirm that you have access to the Page.

  • Make sure the Page isn't owned by a different business that you cannot administer.

  • Reauthorize the Meta connection if necessary.

The current connection troubleshooting guide also recommends reconnecting when permissions are missing or Pages do not appear correctly.
