How to Make a ZazzyAgent AI Agent Skip a Reply
An AI Agent doesn't need to answer every message.
Sometimes the best response is no response.
ZazzyAgent provides a skip_reply action that allows an AI Agent to intentionally avoid sending a customer-facing reply when one isn't appropriate.
The action is:
##skip_reply##
When should an AI skip a reply?
Examples include:
Vague messages that don't require a response
Irrelevant messages
Duplicate messages
Messages where a human agent is already handling the conversation
Situations where another action should happen without an additional reply
Example: Irrelevant message
You could instruct the agent:
If the customer's message is irrelevant to the business
and does not require a response,
do not send a reply.
##skip_reply##
Don't use skip-reply for uncertainty
An agent should not silently ignore a customer simply because it doesn't understand the question.
Instead, it can ask for clarification.
For example:
Customer:
That one.
If the context doesn't make it clear what "that one" means:
Which product are you referring to?
That's better than silently ignoring the customer.
Skip reply vs human handoff
They're different.
Skip reply
No customer-facing response is sent.
##skip_reply##
Human handoff
A team member receives the conversation.
##assign_human_role## : 3
If the customer needs support, don't simply skip the message unless your workflow specifically calls for that behavior.

Skip reply after an action
Sometimes the agent needs to perform a background action without sending another message.
Example:
Customer information has been updated.
The AI may perform the operation and avoid an unnecessary confirmation message if the conversation doesn't require one.
Be careful with silence
Silence can be confusing.
Don't create a general rule like:
Don't reply when the customer says anything unusual.
A better rule identifies specific situations.
Example:
If the message is clearly spam or irrelevant
and no action is required,
skip the reply.
Use an explicit rule for human-controlled conversations
If a human agent has taken over the conversation, you don't want an AI reply unexpectedly appearing in the middle of the human conversation.
Your overall agent configuration and handoff workflow should define when AI should stop participating.
Example: Duplicate message
Suppose a customer accidentally sends:
Hello
three times.
You don't need three identical AI responses.
A suitable instruction could be:
If the customer's message is an obvious duplicate
and has already been answered,
do not send another reply.
##skip_reply##
Skip reply vs blocking spam
These are different actions.
Skip reply
The message receives no response.
Block subscriber
The customer is blocked.
Never use blocking simply because someone sends a message you don't understand.
For spam handling, see the dedicated blocking guide below.
Troubleshooting unwanted AI replies
If your AI keeps replying when it shouldn't:
Review the System Prompt.
Define specific situations where no response is needed.
Check whether another automation is handling the same conversation.
Check whether a human handoff is configured correctly.
Use
##skip_reply##only where silence is genuinely appropriate.
A useful rule
Ask:
Does the customer need a response?
If yes, respond or hand off.
If no, and the conversation should genuinely remain silent:
##skip_reply##
That is the purpose of the action.
