# WhatsApp Sequences | How to Create Automated Follow-Ups

A WhatsApp sequence lets you send a series of messages to customers over time.

Instead of sending one message today and remembering to follow up manually tomorrow, you can create a sequence that handles the follow-up automatically.

Sequences are useful for:

*   Lead nurturing

*   Customer onboarding

*   Post-purchase follow-ups

*   Abandoned-cart recovery

*   Event reminders

*   Re-engagement

*   Course or content delivery

## Sequence vs broadcast

A broadcast is usually a campaign sent to a selected group.

A sequence is a journey that unfolds over time.

Example:

### Broadcast

> New collection available! Shop now.

### Sequence

**Day 0:** Thanks for your interest.

**Day 1:** Here's more information.

**Day 3:** Would you like help choosing?

**Day 5:** Here's a customer review.

**Day 7:** Final follow-up.

## Sequence vs Flow

A flow controls what happens during a conversation.

A sequence controls messages or steps that happen over time after the customer enters the sequence.

They can work together.

For example:

**Customer completes lead form**

↓

**Flow saves information**

↓

**Flow subscribes customer to sequence**

↓

**Sequence sends follow-ups**

## How to create a sequence

Open the Sequence section in ZazzyAgent.

Create a new sequence.

Give it a descriptive name.

Examples:

*   New Lead Follow-up

*   Abandoned Cart Follow-up

*   Post-Purchase

*   Appointment Reminder

*   Product Education

## Add the messages

Build the sequence by adding the messages you want to send.

Each message can have its own timing.

Example:

**Message 1**

Immediately

> Thanks for your interest!

**Message 2**

After 1 day

> Have you had a chance to look at our products?

**Message 3**

After 3 days

> Would you like help choosing the right option?

## Add delays

The delay determines when the next step happens.

Think about the customer's experience when choosing delays.

A customer who requested pricing may need a quick follow-up.

A product education campaign might work better over several days.

## Use WhatsApp templates when required

WhatsApp messaging rules still apply inside sequences.

If a sequence reaches a point where a customer service window no longer applies, an approved WhatsApp template may be required.

Plan templates for sequences that continue beyond the initial conversation window.

## Subscribe customers to a sequence

A customer can enter a sequence through supported automation.

Examples:

**Lead form completed**

→ Subscribe to Lead Follow-up

**Customer requests product information**

→ Subscribe to Product Follow-up

**Cart abandoned**

→ Subscribe to Cart Recovery

## Remove customers from a sequence

You may also need to remove customers when the original goal has been completed.

Example:

Customer is in:

> Sales Follow-up

Customer purchases.

↓

Remove them from:

> Sales Follow-up

This prevents irrelevant follow-up messages.

## A practical lead-nurturing sequence

### Immediately

> Thanks for your interest in our products. What would you like to know?

### After 1 day

> Have you had a chance to review the options?

### After 3 days

> I can help you choose the right product based on your requirements.

### After 5 days

> Would you like us to recommend an option for you?

### After 7 days

> Just checking in. Reply here if you'd like help.

The exact timing and messaging should match the customer's expectations and WhatsApp's current rules.

## Abandoned-cart sequence

A common ecommerce sequence could be:

**After cart abandonment**

> You left something in your cart.

**Later**

> Need help completing your order?

**Later**

> Your items are still waiting for you.

Any promotional or business-initiated messaging must follow the applicable WhatsApp rules and template requirements.

## Post-purchase sequence

Example:

**Order delivered**

→

**After a few days:** How was your purchase?

→

**Later:** Need any help?

→

**Later:** Would you like to see products related to your purchase?

## Sequence analytics

Use the available reporting to understand how your sequence performs.

Look for:

*   Messages sent

*   Delivery

*   Read status

*   Failures

*   Customer responses

*   Sequence completion

## Common sequence problems

### Sequence isn't starting

Check:

* Was the customer actually subscribed?

*   Is the trigger working?

*   Is the sequence active?

* Is the timing configured correctly?

### Messages aren't being delivered

Check:

*   WhatsApp messaging rules

*   Template approval

*   Template availability

*   Customer eligibility

*   Message status/errors

### Customer keeps receiving irrelevant messages

Check whether your automation removes or unsubscribes customers when they complete the intended journey.

## Best practice

A sequence should have a clear goal.

Don't create a sequence simply because automated follow-ups are available.

Ask:

> What should be different after the customer completes this sequence?

Then build the messages around that outcome.
